Leaves have many different functions. One thing they do is help control the direction of raindrops. They spread the water evenly to the plants roots. They help keep the soil from eroding.
Roots absorb (or soak up) water for the plant.
Kinetic energy is energy that is moving. (like with a falling raindrop.) The more leaves a plant has, the more kinetic energy it can absorb.
Eroding soil is soil that is washing away during heavy rain. Plants are often planted on a hillside to help decrease soil erosion.
