October 18 Parent Letter

Parents,

Progress reports come out this week on Wednesday. Look for them in your child’s folder.

Third and fourth graders should start thinking about chapter books. If your child hasn’t read a chapter book yet this six weeks, now is the time!

Many thanks to all the parents who are helping to drive children to our field trip Wednesday.

Our Chapter 3 Social Studies test will be on Wednesday. Study sheets will be in the folders tomorrow. Science will be on Thursday as usual.

Regarding the Unit 2 Social Studies project: I’ve heard rumblings from some of the students that their computer doesn’t work, no printer, etc... and that they’re not doing it. This IS a required assignment and counts as a test grade. Students will have a ‘0’ averaged in if they do not complete the assignment. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Second Six Weeks Memory Verse #4

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. Jeremiah 17:7

October 11 Parent Letter

Parents,

This is the third week of the grading period. That means look for Progress Reports next week.

There is information on the Unit 2 Social Studies Project in the folder today. Please look for this.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. We are going to present Pastor Ulmer with a gift card at chapel on Wednesday. If your child would like to contribute to this, please send that tomorrow. It would be nice if each child could chip in a dollar.

If you haven’t returned the permission slip for the Pumpkin Patch, please try to do so soon. Also notice that there is a note about the PTL meeting next week.

That’s about all this week. The students are doing great. Keep up the good work parents.

Second Six Weeks Memory Verse #3

God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Lesson 8 Science Test Review

  1. The inside-out popper lying on your work surface contained potential energy.
  1. When the popper “popped,” kinetic energy was released.
  1. Muscles are NOT part of your nervous system.
  1. The amount of time it takes for you to respond to a stimulus is called your reaction time.
  1. A depressant drug (like alcohol) will increase reaction time, causing them to react slower.

Unit 2 Social Studies Project

The Unit 2 Social Studies project will be for each student to make a poster.  We have drawn names and the students have picked the following Native American groups.

Tobin – Kiowa
Trey – Concho
Harley – Jumano
Mason – Caddo
Jessica – Comanche
Harlie – Cherokee
Noah – Lipan Apache
Ayla – Karankawa
Alan – Tonkawa

Posters should be on a regular sized poster board.  Students should research and make their posters at home.

Things to include on your posters:  maps of where the tribes were found, type of dwellings used, types of “jobs” they did (farming, hunting, etc.), foods they ate.   Be creative.  Share any interesting things discovered.  You may include pictures of artifacts, lodgings, etc.  Posters should have a main title which states which tribe it tells about.

Posters will be due on Thursday, November 4th.
